Teaching & Learning

The learning and teaching programs are guided by the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework as approved by the NT Board of Studies.

St Paul’s Catholic Primary School has commenced using The Australian Curriculum in the Learning Areas of English and Mathematics.

It is expected that further implementation of the Australian Curriculum will occur in the near future.  Studies of Society and Environment, Science, Technology and Design, the Arts, Physical Education and Health Education, Information Computing Technology, Indigenous Perspectives and engaging with Asia are important areas for learning and are embedded across all of the Learning Areas.

Religious Education is embedded into our classroom practices and explicit teaching of Religious Education is guided by the 'Journey In Faith’ curriculum.

This comprehensive approach to teaching and learning provides each student with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to embrace lifelong learning. The curriculum provides academic rigor as well as significant and engaging learning, relevant to each student. The use of critical thinking skills is embedded in our curriculum. There is also a focus on developing communication skills, social skills, research skills and self-management skills.

Ongoing monitoring and assessment is used to guide and inform teaching. A variety of strategies are used to cater to individual learning and developmental needs. Reports, which record the achievement and progress of each student, are issued towards the end of Semester One and Semester Two. Ongoing communication with parents is encouraged through informal and formal meetings and parent/teacher interviews.  Student portfolios are utilised to showcase student learning and progress throughout the year.
