Assessment & Reporting

Assessment at St Paul's takes on many forms.
There are 2 main purposes for assessment; the first is to ascertain what students know in order to establish their next learning steps.  This form of assessment is often called formative assessment.  The other form of assessment is summative assessment.  The main purpose of this assessment is to track student learning and growth over a period of time.

Formative Assessments

Examples of Formative Assessments include:

Beginning of Year assessments
Beginning of Term assessments
Pre-unit assessments
Ongoing anecdotal record keeping
Conferencing
Running Records

Summative Assessments

Examples of Summative Assessments include:

End of Year PAT-R and PAT-M testing (Progressive Achievement Tests)
NAPLAN (Years 3 and 5)
End of Term Assessments

Reporting

Formal written reports are sent home twice yearly, at the end of Terms 2 and 4.  These reports are a mixture of skills checklists and government-required growth comparisons (in relation to where students of the same age are expected to be achieving).

Student-Led Conversations are held at the end of Term 2.  During these conversations, students host their parents as they teach them about the main learning that has occurred throughout the first semester.

Teacher will seek out an appointment with parents at any time throughout the year if the need arises.
Parents are also welcome to make an appointment with their child's teacher at any time.
